Called by the Grave Forbidden — What’s Next? | July 2026 OCG Banlist Review

The OCG July 2026 Forbidden & Limited List has landed — and it’s a heavy blow to Kewl Tune. With key staples and combo enablers clipped, the format is shifting fast. Let’s break down the hits and what they mean for duelists preparing for the new meta. Let’s go!

Overview

Every quarter, OCG drops a new Forbidden & Limited List to reshape the format. On June 21st, the July 2026 list was revealed, bringing sweeping changes across multiple archetypes. Here’s a quick recap of the adjustments:

Forbidden

Four cards were axed this time:

  • Geonator Transverser — notorious FTK enabler.
  • Naturia Rosewhip — searchable floodgate in Kewl Tune.
  • Harpie’s Feather Storm — oppressive turn control tool.
  • Called by the Grave — staple hand trap negator, now gone, making hand traps far more reliable.

Limited

Key restrictions include:

  • Kewl Tune Rotary — reduces Extra Normal Summon consistency.
  • Synchro Overtake — lowers Kewl Tune’s search power.
  • Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom — FTK suppression.
  • Solemn Judgment — less likely to appear in opening hands.
  • Elder Entity Norden & Mind Master — errata returns with hard once-per-turn clauses.

Semi-Limited

  • Perfectron Hydradrive Dragon — FTK potential from Limit Over Collection.
  • Kewl Tune Synchro — reduced consistency.
  • Solemn Warning — weaker counterplay against summons.
  • Mathmech Circular — possible test run for future support.

Unlimited

Several cards were freed, including Toadally Awesome, giving back consistency to decks that rely on it. These unhits are generally welcomed by the community.

Summary

The July 2026 list didn’t touch heavy hitters like Maxx “C”, Dimension Shifter, or Droll & Lock Bird, but the banning of Called by the Grave is a seismic change. With Kewl Tune nerfed, Toon may rise as the next dominant deck — unless BEYOND THE BRAVE introduces fresh support to shake things up.
